Located on the Grand River, just north of the major 401 transportation corridor, Kitchener-Waterloo is a key industrial centre in Canada. The area was settled by German Mennonites and other Europeans in the early 1800s. The success of area farmers and manufacturers which benefitted from the growth of railroads, which connected them to major markets.
The region has four key communties: Kitchener, Waterloo, Cambridge, and Guelph, each with unique attractions, history, natural resources, and recreation.
